NDI to observe Georgia's election

The USA National Democratic Institute (NDI) sent an observation mission to the presidential election in Georgia to be held on October 27. It will bring together politicians and civic leaders, experts and specialists of the region.

The NDI delegation is headed by a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the State of Connecticut and member of the supervisory board of the organisation Sam Gejdenson, former Ambassador Per Eklund and former U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Yalowitz.

The delegation will meet with the presidential candidates, members of the government and the electoral administration, leaders of political parties, civilian representatives, the media and international organisations. The delegation will also take into account the conclusions of the previous missions.

After orientation meetings in Tbilisi, the mission will disperse by region, hold meetings with representatives of local organisations and on Election Day monitor the voting process. They will then gather in Tbilisi to prepare a preliminary report on the election.

The mission is aimed to demonstrate the support of the international community for democratic processes in Georgia.
