Iran plans to increase exports of arms and military equipment to friendly and neighboring countries in the future.

Iran's Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan has stressed the importance of defense cooperation with other countries, saying Iran will export defense products to different states, Iran media reported.

Dehqan said on August 25 that Tehran will first try to cooperate and share defense experience with its neighbors, and later with other countries.

"We will have cooperation with different countries on a variety of issues including the export of defense products," the Iranian minister noted.

He added that many international issues can be resolved through defensive diplomacy.

Besides, Dehqan underlined that providing a high level of logistical support for the Armed Forces will be one of the important strategies of the ministry.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Iran has taken wide strides in designing and manufacturing different types of light, semi-heavy and heavy weapons, military tools and equipment. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

In July 2010, a senior Iranian military expert General Yadollah Javani said that the country is exporting arms and military equipment to 40 countries.
