Electricity rates to rise in Uzbekistan from April

Electricity rates will be increased in Uzbekistan from April 1, Uzbekenergo state joint stock company has said on its website.

According to the company, the cost per kW/h of electricity will increase by 7.4 percent - from 104.4 soum to 112.2 soum.

For homes equipped with electric stoves, the cost per kW/h of electricity will rise to 56.1 soum from 52.2 soum.

The previous increase in electricity fees was enforced in Uzbekistan in October 2012 and made up 7 percent.

The official exchange rate as of March 22 is 2035.05 sum per $1.

Uzbekenergo carries out centralized electric power supply of the Central Asian state's economy and population and also sale of thermal energy to industrial and domestic consumers.

During the years of economic reform, the power industry's enterprises annually generate up to 48 billion kW/h of electric power, a volume that fully meets the demand of the country's economy and population.
