Search for oil workers, missing after an accident on the platform #10 of the offshore Gunashli field in the Caspian Sea on December 4, is underway.

The Emergency Situations Ministry of Azerbaijan and the country's state energy company SOCAR have decided to ensure participation of family members of the missing oilmen in their search, SOCAR reported on December 28.

“Taking into account desire of the family members of the missing oil workers, a decision was made to ensure their participation in the search using helicopters,” the company said. “Starting from December 29, one family member of each missing oil worker will join the search teams.”

A fire broke out on the platform #10 of Azerbaijan’s offshore Gunashli field on December 4, after an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline was damaged in strong storm. Out of 63 people who were on platform at the moment of accident only 33 were rescued, while 22 are still regarded missing with eight dead.

Dead body of one of the missing oil workers - SOCAR employee Iman Gasimov - was recovered on the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported on December 27.

His identity was determined in accordance with the ID card found on the dead body.
