Italian scientists and their Azerbaijani counterparts are studying isotopic and chemical composition of the water and gas available in the south part of Azerbaijan.

This was said by the Geology and Geophysics Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) on June 24.

As part of this project, the Italian researcher at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of the National Research Council of Italy, Marco Bonini and the scientist at the University of Florence Orlando Vaselli came to Azerbaijan on June 21.

Research is conducted in the Talysh Mountains by Italian researches and Azerbaijani scientists including the Head of the Dynamics of Fluids in Sedimentary Basins Department at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, corresponding member of ANAS Akbar Feyzullayev and Head of Gamma-ray Spectrometry of Geological Environment Department, Doctor of Geological and Mineral Sciences Chingiz Aliyev.

The week-long research presupposes taking samples of mineral and thermal rocks. Moreover, geological studies will be carried out at the places of the gas outlet. Then these samples will be studied in Italy.

These works are carried out in the framework of cooperation between ANAS and CNR "Manifestations of fluids in the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus and Talysh Mountains: geochemistry, structure and geodynamic dependence of fluids". The works will last into next year.

Italian scientists have recently carried out a number of studies in Azerbaijan jointly with their Azerbaijani counterparts. They have studied mud volcanoes and conducted field research on geodynamic processes and seismic dangers.
