French MPs issue statement condemning beating of two Azerbaijanis in Paris
A group of French parliamentarians and senators has issued a statement condemning the beating of the Azerbaijani Diaspora members in the French parliament.
The statement says that head of Paris Azerbaijan House Mirvari Fataliyeva and Azerbaijani student Vusal Huseynov were brutally beaten by Armenians on Tuesday at the event organized by Armenian organizations in the French National Assembly.
"A young woman was beaten, while male student's rib was broken. Due to the occupation of Azerbaijan's territories by Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been at war since 1991. The question is the occupation of Azerbaijan's Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, international organizations recognize them as the territories of Azerbaijan. The tension has been observed due to the anniversary of Khojaly genocide this week.
"The Azerbaijanis have marked the 21st anniversary of the killing of 613 civilians by Armenians in Khojaly on February 26, 1992. On the same day, the Armenians marked the killing of Armenians in Sumgait, Azerbaijan in 1988, during the USSR period. Violence during democratic debates in the French Parliament building is inadmissible. We hope that the perpetrators of this serious incident will be punished soon."
The statement has been signed by Nathalie Goulet, Jean-Marie Bockel, Hervé Maurey, Sylvie Goy-Chavent, André Reichardt, Jeanny Lorgeoux and Jean-Luc Reitzer.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has condemned the violence against Azerbaijani citizens in France and hopes relevant authorities will take action on this issue and that the country's law enforcement agencies will promptly investigate the crime and bring culprits to justice, a statement of the ministry said on Wednesday.
The Azerbaijani embassy sent a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry over the beating of the two Azerbaijanis in the building of National Assembly.
