The IDEA environmental protection campaign founded by Vice-President of Azerbaijan's Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, jointly with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), launched the Green Week project for the first time in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on Monday, the IDEA campaign said.

The Green Week is the first project of this kind in the Caucasus region.

Along with local guests, representatives of international governmental and non-governmental organizations, youth leaders and other visitors from around the world are in attendance at the five-day event.

On the first day of the Week, an international youth forum is being organized. The forum will make a significant contribution to the implementation of decisions made at the summit of Rio +20, and will adopt a declaration, which will be brought to the attention of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

More than 20 international participants are joining the forum through TUNZA network. Local and foreign attendees will make presentations and participate in discussions.

The global "green economy" and activities carried out in Azerbaijan and several European countries with the participation of more than 50 foreign nationals will be discussed during the second day of the event.

Environment diplomacy training will be organized at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy on Wednesday. More than 300 youths will take part in the planned open lectures.

A tree-planting project along one of the Azerbaijani highways will also happen the same day.

A roundtable discussion with the participation of representatives from government agencies and international organizations will be held on the fourth day of the Green Week.

The work of the organizing committee can be reviewed by following the updates on Twitter pages of the IDEA campaign and the Green Week (@ IDEAcampaign and @ GreenWeekBaku).

The IDEA campaign has already implemented a number of local and international projects. Large-scale projects implemented by IDEA are of interest for a number of international organizations.
