Azerbaijan, Djibouti hail political relations

The level of political relations between Azerbaijan and Djibouti was hailed as Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with a delegation led by President of the National Assembly of Djibouti Mohamed Ali Houmed.

During the meeting in Baku on May 4, they stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and intensifying the activity of Friendship Group of both countries for further development of ties, Azertac reported.

Mammadyarov praised the active role of Djibouti as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council in adoption of relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in that time.

He also expressed his gratitude on behalf of Azerbaijan for the adoption of a resolution on the Khojaly genocide in the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti and consistent support to the Azerbaijan’s just position.

Mohamed Ali Houmed, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian assistance rendered by the Government of Azerbaijan to Djibouti and stated that his country always stands by brotherly and friendly Azerbaijani people.

Touching upon the importance of expansion of economic and humanitarian relations, the FM mentioned that the favourable geographical and strategic position of both countries could provide more opportunities to strengthen further cooperation in the fields of air and sea transport.

Mohamed Ali Houmed characterized his country as an “entry door” to Africa and Arabic world for Azerbaijan and in this regard, he commended the cooperation forged between Baku International Sea Trade Port and Djibouti Port as well as Azerbaijan Airlines and relevant authorities of Djibouti and exchange of reciprocal visits.

Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov met the delegation on May 3, noting that reciprocal visits contribute to development of bilateral bonds.

During the Baku visit, the delegation was earlier received by President Ilham Aliyev, who expressed a confidence that the visit will play a significant role in the development of Azerbaijan-Djibouti relations.
