The 30th Summer Universiade is being held in Naples, Italy, on July 3-14. National gymnast Marina Nekrasova has won in the final and grabbed the gold medal by gaining 14 points in the vault discipline.
In the final, Marina outstripped rivals from Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Taiwan.
She landed smoothly within the set landing zone on the mat and with no steps aside. Her technique and performance were highly appreciated by the jury and spectators.
This is the first gold of Azerbaijan at the Universiade. Earlier, silver was won by national judoka Hidayat Heydarov.
Previously, Marina Nekrasova represented Azerbaijan at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, 2015 European Games and Islamic Solidarity Games.
She gained one gold medal in the team discipline and two silver medals in the vault and balance team disciplines at Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 2017.
It is noteworthy that the Azerbaijani team took the first place in the medal table of gymnastics at that tournament.
