Azerbaijan has named a national squad for the European U23 Judo Championships to be held in Tel Aviv, Azertac reported.
The tournament will bring together 337 judo fighters from 40 countries.
Azerbaijan’s hopes will be pinned on Mehman Sadigov, Davud Mammadsoy (both 60kg),Telman Valiyev (66kg), Hidayat Heydarov, Fagan Guluzade (both 73kg), Rufat Ismayilov (81kg), Firudin Dadashov, Vasif Sharbatli (both 90kg) and Jalil Shukurov (100 kg).
Since 1993, Azerbaijani fighters were among the winners at Junior European Judo Championships. In 2000, national team won five medals and took the first place in the team standings at European Judo Championships held in Romania.
A few glorious pages in the history of the Azerbaijani judo were also written in 2002. The turning point in the history of Azerbaijan judo sport was Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
