Kazakhstan electric locomotives assembly factory (Electrovoz Kurastyru Zauyty (EKZ) will start to produce passenger locomotives with the capacity of 200 kph in 2016, Trend reported.

Trial of the electric locomotive was successfully implemented. KZ4AT locomotives are developed by the French Alstom Company.

Bernard Pel, Alstom manager in CIS, said that the use of high-speed locomotives opens new perspectives for making Kazakhstan a center of transport corridor which links Europe, Far East, Asia and Russia.

Maximal speed of passenger locomotives in Kazakhstan currently amounts to 140 kph. Successful implementation of the trial is expected to allow the locomotives to start commercial service at a maximal speed.

The locomotive is designed for the use in all possible climatic conditions. It possesses all advantages of latest generation electric locomotives, having environmentally friendly operational characteristics, a high level of reliability, and economical maintenance characteristics. It also offers a comfortable working environment for the locomotive crew.

The cutting-edge traction system of KZ4AT, jointly produced by Alstom and Transmashholding, is based on Alstom’s technology and components.
