Tajikistan shows interest in acquiring gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, engine oils, liquefied gas and polypropylene.

The eighth meeting of the joint Tajik-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation was held in Dushanbe on October 29.

The agenda of the meeting included a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation and the implementation of the agreements reached as a result of negotiations between Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon.

The parties analyzed the current state of relations, which have recently noticeably intensified in a number of areas, primarily in the trade and economic sphere.

The focus was on such areas as trade, economic and investment relations, transport and energy sectors, ecology, education, culture, sports. Representatives of Turkmenistan familiarized their Tajik colleagues with the priorities of the policy for the development of these areas in our country, and the emerging opportunities for cooperation, putting forward their specific proposals for consideration.

For example, in the oil and gas sector, the need to step up partnerships between the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries and the Tajik Aluminum Company in the supply of petroleum coke was discussed. In turn, Turkmenistan is interested in the supply of aluminum cable from Tajikistan.

Tajik business circles also show interest in acquiring high-quality products of the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries through participation in the auction of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.

In addition, Tajik companies are invited to take part in the international conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" and in the international gas congress.

The parties spoke in favor of establishing direct air communication between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan and noted the need to intensify work on the construction of an important infrastructure project - the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway, with a view to its timely commissioning.

The sides touched upon cooperation in improving the environmental and socio-economic status of the Aral Sea basin, as well as the rational use of water resources, taking into account the interests of all countries in the region.

The issues of cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural sphere were also discussed. A proposal was made to hold the Days of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan in Turkmenistan in 2019. Cooperation in the field of sports and tourism, where both countries have great potential, was also discussed.

Following the meeting, the relevant protocol was signed. The parties agreed to hold the ninth meeting of the joint Tajik -Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation in 2019 in Ashgabat.
