Azerbaijan and the Republic of North Ossetia - Alania intend to expand economic cooperation, Sergey Takoyev, Prime Minister of North Ossetia told reporters.

He made the remarks at an Azerbaijani-Russian business meeting held in Baku on February 3.

Takoyev said that an agreement on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, signed by the parties during today’s meeting, is a framework agreement.

“The agreement makes it possible to establish direct cooperation between the two countries,” he added.

He noted that the agreement stipulates the development of relations in various areas, including the construction materials production, realization of logistics projects, introduction of IT-technologies, and expansion of cultural ties.

Takoyev also pointed to the tourism sector, which has been in recent years actively developing in the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania.

He added that the trade turnover between the two sides stood at about $1 million in 2014. “There is an appropriate ground for increasing this figure, and we will work on it,” he noted.

Shahin Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s Economy and Industry Minister, for his part, highlighted the close ties of Azerbaijan with Russia’s federal subjects.

“Azerbaijan signed cooperation agreements with 78 subjects of the federation including four agreements with intergovernmental commissions,” Mustafayev said.
