Haji Mammadov leaves suicide note before hanging himself

The representatives of the Azerbaijani prosecutor’s office, as well as a medical expert inspected a prison cell in a specialized medical facility of the Penitentiary Service of the country’s Justice Ministry in connection with Haji Mammadov's suicide case, PR department of the Penitentiary Service of the country’s Ministry of Justice said on December 4.
On Dec. 3, Mammadov, former chief operating officer at the Main Crime Investigation Department of Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry, hanged himself.
A suicide note was found in Mammadov's prison cell. In his suicide note, Mammadov apologized to his family members and prison staff.
A criminal case was filed in the Baku city prosecutor's office. The investigation is underway.
Mammadov was sentenced to life imprisonment as head of an organized crime group that committed numerous killings, kidnappings and other serious crimes.
Haji Mammadov was transferred to a specialized medical facility of the Penitentiary Service in Baku’s Bina settlement due to health problems on April 25, 2016.
