Azerbaijani swimmer won gold medal in FINA World Swimming Cup 2018

National swimmer Maksym Shemberev grabbed gold medal at the FINA World Swimming Cup Championship held on September 13-15, in Doha, Qatar.

Maksym Shemberev, member of Azerbaijan's national swimming team, has performed successfully in the Men`s 200 meters butterfly event.

He secured the medal after timing 1:58.45 ahead of Hungary`s David Verraszto and China`s Yuhang Wu.

In addition, in the mix race, Maksym took home silver medal with a second place.

Moreover, in 2015, Shemberev switched to represent Azerbaijan. During the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Shemberev won four goal medals in Men’s 200 meter butterfly, 400 meter individual medley, 800 meter freestyle and 1500 meter freestyle categories.

Launched in 1979, the FINA Swimming World Cup gathers world-class swimmers in a series of two-day meets organized between August and November each year.

This year’s FINA World Swimming Cup 2018 consists of seven rounds. The first round took place in Kazan (September 7-9), second round - in Doha (September 13-15), the third round will be held in Eindhoven (September 28-30), the fourth round is scheduled to take place in Budapest (October 4-6), the fifth round - in Beijing (November 2-4), the sixth round - in Tokyo (November 9-11), and the seventh round - in Singapore (November 15-17). The first two legs were contested over 50-meter course, while the rest over short course of 25 meters.
