Kirsan Ilyumzhinov steps down from role as FIDE President

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov announced his resignation from the position of FIDE President.
The FIDE official website reported that Ilyumzhinov announced his decision at the end of the Board meeting held in Athens, Greece on March 26.
The Presidential Board has been formally advised of this announcement and an extraordinary board meeting has been called in April.
Ilyumzhinov chaired the World Chess Federation since November 1995.
He has obtained degrees and titles from the Interregional
Science of Science Academy of Russian Federation, National Academy
of Applied Sciences of Russian Federation, Russian Social Sciences
Academy and the New York Academy of Sciences
He has also been awarded prestigious awards: Gold Medal of Peace
for Humanitarian Activities, Medal 300 Years of Russian Navy, F.
Plevako Gold Medal, Order of Friendship, Order of St. Nicolas,
Order of Dignity St. George with sword, Triumphal Crown by the
Nat.Academy of App.Sciences, Pierre Obrie Sign (France) & an
