Armenia prepares ground for final rejection of peace talks

By Abdul Kerimkhanov

Turkey held the Winter-2019 international exercise in Kars, near the borders of Armenia on February 13. As many as 15 countries visited exercise including Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.

Large-scale maneuvers caused nervousness in Armenia, where they tried to give it even anti-Russian coloring in the context of Syrian conflict, as well as anti-Armenian - in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Some analysts remind that the 2016 April battles began just at the height of the Russian-Turkish aggravation. Since the clash of interests of the two powers in Syria is inevitable, tensions are also on the Karabakh front.

The panic raised by some Armenian politics says that the Armenian side is preparing the ground for the final rejection of peaceful negotiations. Something inspired aggressive neighbors to behave like this, someone gave guarantees that allow breaking the negotiation process that started at its very start.

In recent weeks, Yerevan actively took up the militarization of Armenia. Armenian officials even declare that the entire Russian military industry is working today on this country’s army.

In early February, it became known that Armenia was buying four modern Su-30SM fighters from Russia. The other day plans were announced to acquire as many as 12 of these aircraft.

However, Armenia does not have money to pay off with Russia in cash. It remains to assume that the fighters will be provided to Armenia in exchange not for money, but for something else. Some analysts consider, sending the Armenian military to Syria is one of the articles of the unspoken treaty between Moscow and Yerevan.

Yerevan should not rejoice before the time. Azerbaijan has such a powerful air defense system that acquiring four Su-30SM fighters will be only a waste of money.

Until the fighters arrive, the modification that Russia has implemented will already be outdated. A lot of time will be taken by the training of pilots, technical support personnel, and as long as all these processes take place, the fighters will become obsolete.

Despite these realities, the Armenian militarists continue to make fantastic statements, arguing that the Armenian military-industrial complex is moving forward, they are even thinking of fighting robotics in the country.

Recently, the Armenian government adopted a new action plan, in which one of the main and extensive sections was the development of the armed forces.

Igor Korotchenko, head of the Center for Analysis of World Trade in Arms, believes that Armenia cannot produce anything on its own, except for automatic small arms and ammunition. The expert said that in general, the Armenian defense industry can represent anything of itself only in cooperation with Russia.

It is obvious that in the tales of combat robot-building that are inaccessible in the Armenian reality, the authorities of this country are trying to maintain the fighting spirit in the society.

However, in reality, Armenia is not going to fight. Yerevan is afraid of war and is trying with all its might to hide its fear. But why Armenia does everything to disrupt the peace talks? Because Yerevan believes that Azerbaijan will not be allowed to break out a war, and expects to maintain the status quo for as long as possible.

Although Armenia certainly understands that the patience of the Azerbaijani side may run out. Then no fighting robots will help the aggressor.
