ADA University hosts an international conference marking the 150th anniversary of Alimardan bay Topchubashov, one of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).

Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Deputy Foreign Minister, ADA University Rector Hafiz Pashayev, and President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Akif Alizade and others attend the opening ceremony, Azertag news agency reported.

Addressing the event, the speakers expressed confidence that the conference would play an important role in studying the legacy of Alimardan bay Topchubashov, a prominent Azerbaijani politician, lawyer, foreign minister of the ADR, who had made an outstanding contribution to ensuring the recognition of the ADR by the international community.

The conference will feature two panels - "Topchubashov as a diplomat and statesman" and "Topchubashov`s political legacy and the impact of his activities on national statehood".

Alimardan bey Topchubashov was one of Azerbaijan's outstanding politicians, chairman of the parliament of the ADR, and head of the Muslim group in the State Duma of the Russian Empire of the First Convocation (1906-1917).

Topchubashov, one of the greatest persons nurtured by Azerbaijani history acted as the leader of Russian Turks, the Muslim peoples of the empire and Caucasian immigration.

With his political activities, he gave a national nature to cultural awakening and became one of the creators of a new Azerbaijan. Topchubashov made an invaluable contribution to formation of the Azerbaijani statehood. He also had a great role in the process of democratization of the Democratic Republic.
