Former Philippine speaker: Azerbaijan is successful and democratic country
Azerbaijan is a mature, successful and democratic country, former Philippine Speaker Jose de Venecia said at the seventh General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Baku on Thursday.
He said there are a lot of political parties in Azerbaijan and this testifies to the fact that democracy was created in the country.
Jose de Venecia stressed that incumbent President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues national leader Heydar Aliyev's policy.
Stressing that the poverty level in Azerbaijan has been reduced over a short period to six per cent, Jose de Venecia said that placing this part of the population in a category which is considered a middle layer, is one of the country's great achievements.
"Azerbaijan will raise the level of the whole Caucasus by its development," he said. "This is the result of Azerbaijan's influence."
Referring to the ICAPP challenges, Jose de Venecia said it is necessary to create a union of Asian people. "We are close to it, but we still fail to solve this issue yet," he added.
Around 200 representatives from 35 countries are participating in the ICAPP meeting.
