19 October 2010 09:45 (UTC+04:00)

AMSTERDAM – The Netherlands suspended sales of food, produced in Azerbaijan's occupied town of Khankendi, called "Stepanakert" by Armenians, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported with reference to the embassy in the Netherlands.

Benelux Azerbaijanis Congress conducted investigations in a number of stores Blin in the Netherlands and found products produced by Artsahfrut. The distributor is Hayfood company. Besides Armenia, "Stepanakert" was indicated as the place of production on the website of Artsahfrut company.

The Netherlands suspended sales of the product as a result of actions conducted by the Congress.

A conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding negotiations to resolve the dispute.
