The Old City, the historical core of Baku, will host a festival dedicated to World Tourism Day on September 27.

The event will be held at much loved symbol of the city Maiden Tower from 11:00 to 18:00, Trend Life reported.

Embassies of more than ten countries will present their national pavilions to promote their tourism potential.

Holding of the festival near the Maiden Tower is symbolic, since first what tourists want to see in the capital city is this majestic and mysterious monument. This cylindrical eight story structure of 29.5 meter high is rising in the south-eastern part of the fortress of Icherisheher.

Since 1980, people around the world celebrate the United Nations’ (UN) World Tourism Day- September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted.

The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The celebration aims to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community.
