Turkmenistan and Iran have discussed ways to develop the partnership in the sphere of transport, the Turkmen government reported.

During the meeting held at Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry, the Iranian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Ali Nourzad.

The sides discussed the construction of the new road bridge Serakhs (Turkmenistan) - Sarakhs (Iran) across the Tejen River, as well as participation of Iranian companies in the projects for constructing Serakhs-Tejen road and Ashgabat-Turkmenabat autobahn.

They praised the process of development of interaction between the business circles of the two countries in various sectors.

The annual trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Iran nears $5 billion and it can double in coming years, according to the data issued by the Iranian side.

A series of large-scale joint projects have been implemented by Turkmenistan and Iran during the years-long cooperation. Korpeje–Kordkuy gas pipeline commissioned in 1996 and its branch Dauletabad–Sarakhs–Khangiran is the most important project implemented by the two sides.

Moreover, Iran purchases electricity from Turkmenistan.

The two countries have built border dam "Dostluk" (Friendship) and implemented North-South railway project based on the trilateral agreement signed in 2007 with participation of Kazakhstan.
