Azerbaijan and Serbia have voiced mutual interest in expanding relations between the two countries.

The cooperation issues were mulled in Baku, as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Aleksandar Vucic, the Serbian prime minister on April 14, AzerTag news agency reported.

President Aliyev recalled with pleasure his Munich meeting with the Serbian premier and their fruitful discussions on the development of partnership.

He expressed confidence that the visit of the delegation led by Vucic to Azerbaijan would be successful.

Vucic, in turn, said Serbia was interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan in both political and economic spheres.

The sides noted that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia were at a high level and that various projects on this front were being successfully implemented. The parties also emphasized that strong political relations and mutual understanding between the two countries contributed to the expansion of bilateral ties.

They further exchanged views on issues related to the prospects of cooperation in various areas, especially energy, investment making, cargo transportation, culture, and humanitarian field.

The sides also touched upon the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which emerged in 1988 over Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

They stressed that the two countries' positions coincide when it comes to solving conflicts based on the norms of international law and within territorial integrity principle.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia were established in August 1997.

The trade turnover between the two countries was $3,836 million in 2014, according to the Azerbaijan State Statistics Committee.

Serbia exports agricultural products, equipment and pumps for the oil and gas industry, as well as furniture and building materials to Azerbaijan.
