NAM conference  big step in securing world: FM

An Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Foreign Minister took part at the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov addressed the conference as deputy chairman of the European Group of NAM on May 28.

Mammadyarov said the conference will be a big step in efforts to build a fair, prosperous, and secure world based on the norms and principles of international law.

He expressed confidence that, supporting the principles and objectives of the Movement, the final document which will be accepted at the conference will reflect a fairly comprehensive agenda.

Eventually, it will be implemented by the member countries in a spirit of solidarity, Mammadyarov added.

He went on to say that the European Group will actively interact within the Movement in the expansion and deepening of political consultations and practical cooperation to support the NAM's principles and objectives.

Mammadyarov also chaired the session of the 17th Ministerial Conference of the NAM, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on May 29.

The representatives of Senegal, Palestine, Niger, Spain, and other countries addressed the session, and the topical issues included in its agenda were discussed.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mammadyarov met Minister of State for Foreign Relations of Sudan Kamal Ismail Saeed on May 28.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of development in bilateral political relations, and exchanged views on ways of developing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and investment.

Mammadyarov stressed the importance of mutual visits by business communities and the organization of business forums for the development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

Saeed, in turn, said Sudan attached great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan.

Intensifying mutual visits and cooperation within international organizations were also discussed at the meeting.

Mammadyarov also met with Patti Londoño, Deputy Colombian Foreign Minister.

Expressing satisfaction with the current development of political relations, Mammadyarov pointed to the existence of suitable conditions for cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, trade, investment, energy, and humanitarian spheres.

He highlighted the importance of the Spanish language courses organized by the Colombian language experts in Azerbaijan.

Londoño, in turn, noted that her country considers Azerbaijan a leader state in the region and attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan in all spheres.

The conference of the 120 members of the NAM opened on May 28 and will end on May 29.
