Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan eye regional co-op
Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Nursultan Nazarbayev exchanged views on relevant regional and international issues of mutual interest over phone, the Turkmen government reported on April 23.
"The two countries' adherence to the constructive cooperation as part of the authoritative international organizations, primarily the UN, was confirmed" the statement said.
During the meeting, the presidents stressed favorable prospects for further intensification of the mutually beneficial partnership in the trade-economic cooperation, taking into account the existing significant potential in various areas.
The implemented large-scale project for the construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway, connecting Asia and Europe, is a good example of effective cooperation.
Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are involved in a large project for the Central Asia gas supply to China.
China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) started purchasing gas from the Central Asia in 2009 (after the commissioning of the first two – A and B – branches of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The third branch (C) that also runs through this route was commissioned in 2014.
