Azerbaijan aspires to bolster Islamic unity

By Gulgiz Dadashova

Azerbaijan is a part of the Muslim world and enjoys great respect of other Islamic countries. The country is doing its utmost to consolidate Islamic unity not only on its soil but also in the rest of the Islamic world, and to fight the myths and stereotypes regarding Muslims that have prevailed in the West.

Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Social and Political Department, Ali Hasanov, said that Azerbaijan will allocate a grant to protect the interests of the Islamic world.

Speaking at the meeting "Strengthening NGO-government dialogue" held within the "Organizing public hearings for the NGO sector development" project on May 29, Hasanov said several international NGOs present the situation in Islamic countries as chaos and anarchy.

"But the chaos and anarchy emerged over the past five years following the intervention in the internal affairs of these countries," Hasanov said.

He went on to say that Azerbaijan will also allocate funds for the promotion of Islamic morale and culture, and to counter Islamophobia.

"Because the world's Muslims are unfairly criticized and Muslim nations are equated to terrorists. It's unfair to criticize and shame the leadership of the Islamic countries, while in many of these countries there is a more stable control than in Europe. All of these issues have been in the focus of our attention," Hasanov said.
