Date set for first European Olympic Games in Baku (UPDATE)

The First European Olympic Games will be held in Baku from June 12-28, 2015, Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said on Tuesday at a press conference held in connection with the completion of the first meeting of the Coordination Committee of European games.

According to the minister, the competition will take place on 19 kinds of sports and some 6,351 athletes will take part in it.

The sports facilities were presented in Baku on Tuesday. The representatives of the committee visited various sports facilities and Olympic Village. One building has been already constructed there, the minister said.

Rahimov said that the proposals related to the preparation of the main logo and website, the opening and closing ceremonies, the award of medals were made at the meeting of the committee.

The discussions are underway, he said.

"We can hold the greatest sports event in Europe at a high level," he said.

According to the minister, an executive committee, which began its work in the Olympic Village, has been established. Foreign experts have been already attracted. This will allow gaining more experience for holding larger events in the future.
