Azerbaijani cycling team takes fourth place in China

The Tour of Taihu Lake in China was held from November 1 to 9.

Azerbaijan was represented by its first national professional cycling team Synergy Baku including team captain Maxim Averin and national champions Elchin Asadov, Enver Asanov, Ismail Ilyasov, Samir Jabrayilov, Alex Surutkovych and Christoph Schweizer.

The nine-stage race tour, on the 2.1 category was attended by 17 continental and three national teams.

Successfully participating at the competition, Synergy Baku became the fourth among 20 teams standing after Holland team, which was only 10 seconds faster.

At the final stage, Samir Jabrailov became the 12th and Elchin Asadov the19th.

The most exciting moment of the tour for Azerbaijan was the climbing of 23 year-old national cyclist Samir on a pedestal in one of the stages. The member of U-23 took the third place, reaching the final with just four seconds later than the winner of the second place.

The Synergy Baku Cycling' riders will continue their racing schedule in China, participating in another competition to be held from November 14 to 16 on the 2.2 category called “Tour of Fuzhou”.

Being loyal to its slogan, "For a sustainable future", Synergy Group OJSC is the main sponsor of the first professional cycling team of Azerbaijan "Synergy Baku Cycling Project."
