Red Bull's Max Verstappen has won the 2022 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, his fifth Grand Prix victory this season, Azernews reports.

The Dutch driver finished the eighth round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship in one hour, 34 minutes and 5 seconds.

Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez finished second in the race followed by Mercedes George Russell, who came third in the 51-lap race.

The awarding ceremony started with the national anthems of the Netherlands and Austria.

Next, the winners were awarded trophies that stand out for their designs.

The official prize dedicated to the Year of Shusha reflects the minarets of the mosque of Yukhara Govhar Agha, one of the most ancient monuments in Shusha.

The patterns on the cup resemble the brick surface of the minarets, which are divided into three parts by convex ribbons and decorated with colored stones.

National patterns and elements are also featured on four pure silver competition trophies.

The official award of the race is also dedicated to the 270th anniversary of Shusha city, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.

Mayor of Baku City Eldar Azizov presented the trophy to the winner of the Grand Prix Max Verstappen.

Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov presented the trophy to Sergio Perez (Red Bull Racing), while the president of the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation, Anar Alakbarov, awarded George Russell (Mercedes).

Speaking about the victory in Baku, Verstappen said that it is difficult to think about victory in advance because there were strong opponents.

The Dutch driver noted that the Baku track is different from other tracks. It has exciting twists and turns.

"But I can say that the Baku track is unique," the racer told Trend.

The 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix kicked off at Baku City Circuit on June 10-12.

There were certain changes in the timing of the races within the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. F1 racing will be held in Azerbaijan until 2024.
