Excessive demands by six powers to block nuclear talks

By Sara Rajabova

Iran's foreign minister has said the excessive demands in negotiations between Iran and the six world powers would hinder talks on Tehran's nuclear energy program.

Mohammad Javad Zarif said any excessive demands by the P5+1 group would be a stumbling block to progress in negotiations, Press TV reported.

"Iran does not need anything beyond its rights and is ready to allay the concerns of the international community, but we believe that imposition only hampers efforts to resolve dispute," Zarif said upon his arrival in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on July 2 for the nuclear talks.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain and the US - plus Germany are scheduled to resume the sixth round of talks over Tehran's nuclear energy program in Vienna on July 2.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry warned Iran this week it still had to prove its nuclear ambitions were peaceful as the July 20 deadline for an agreement nears.

Zarif further said Iran has never yielded to coercion and will not do so in this round of talks, either.

"In this round of talks, the negotiating sides must enter into drafting the final agreement by July 20," Zarif added.

He stressed the importance of a political will to reach a final nuclear agreement and expressed Iran's full readiness to reach and implement a final deal by July 20.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said on July 1 that no deadline has been set for the current round of negotiations but it is expected that talks will continue until July 20.

He added that Iran and all sides in the P5+1, particularly Iran's Foreign Minister Zarif and EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, will use the opportunity from July 2-20 to reach a final agreement.

P5+1 and Iran reached an interim pact on last November under which Iran won some relief from economic sanctions in return for reining in some of its nuclear activities.

Their goal is to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement that would lay to rest Western concerns about the Iranian program and comprehensively ease sanctions on Tehran by July 20.

Iran and the P5+1 wrapped up their latest round of talks over Tehran's nuclear energy program in Vienna on June 20.

Speaking at the end of the last talks, Zarif said differences remain between the two sides over key issues related to Iran's nuclear energy program.
