Turkmenistan and Croatia signed a package of intergovernmental agreements after the high level and expanded talks in Ashgabat on April 29.

The agreements on establishing an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, avoidance of double taxation, the cooperation of the foreign ministries and a number of other documents in the field of tourism and cultural exchange were signed, a source close to the negotiations told Trend Agency.

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic started two-day official visit to Turkmenistan on April 29 at Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's invitation. The delegation consisted of the heads of the companies and management of the Croatian maritime transport, who will participate in the joint business forum.

The Croatian president is expected to visit the city of Turkmenbashi and acquaint with the work of the refinery, the international seaport and Avaza national resort on April 30.

Ashgabat and Zagreb are actively cooperating in the field of transport. Also, Croatia supports Turkmenistan's efforts to ensure the global energy security and to create the mechanisms for reliable and stable transit of energy resources to the world markets.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players on the energy market in the Caspian region and Central Asia, and calls for the diversification of routes. At present, the variants of supplying Turkmen gas to Europe via the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan are being examined.
