Three-side document signed over Baiterek space rocket complex in Kazakhstan

Heads of the Kazakh, Russian and Ukrainian Space Agencies discussed cooperation issues and prospects of the Baiterek project implementation on the basis of Ukrainian carrier rocket Zenith at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh Space Agency Kazcosmos reported that the meeting took place in the city of Evpatoria (Ukraine).

The parties signed a protocol on joint operation of Zenith space rocket complex within creating Baiterek space rocket complex at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

"The protocol confirms the necessity of the "Baiterek" space rocket complex creation at the Baikonur Cosmodrome with participation of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine," Head of the Kazakh Space Agency Talgat Musabayev said.

The parties agreed to work out the conditions and mechanisms of participation and cooperation of all interested companies and organizations in Zenith space rocket complex within Baiterek project at all stages, from the production of carrier rocket Zenit to launch services.

The Ukrainian Space Agency will send its proposals on the prospects of cooperation within the Baiterek project, to Kazkosmos and Roscosmos and the final decision will be taken after their consideration.

Musabayev said that Kazcosmos' and Roscosmos' experts had studied the possibility and advisability of Baiterek transfer from Russian rocket carrier Angara to Ukrainian rocket carrier Zenith to implement an instruction of the Kazakh and Russian presidents

. He noted that the three countries have experience of cooperation space activity within the Dnepr program.
