Over 50 million Iranians eligible to vote - minister
More than 50.4 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election, Mehr news agency quoted Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar as saying.
Over 1.6 million can vote for the first time, he added.
Some 130,000 balloting centres will be set up across the country, he said, adding that 285 centres will be also set up for Iranians living overseas.
Eight candidates will compete in the presidential election to be held on June 14.
Voters will select the successor to the current President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the
elections for a third term according to the country's
constitutional laws.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term.
