Saudi Arabia to buy UAVs and tanks from Turkey

Saudi Arabia plans an acquisition of Turkey's Anka UAVs and Altai tanks, Sabah newspaper reported on Monday.

For the purchase of tanks and UAVs, the Saudi Chief of General Staff Huseyin Bin Abdellah Al-Gobail has made an official visit to Turkey and met with President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Turkish counterpart Necdet Ozer.

Riyadh plans to buy Turkish armoured vehicles worth $2 billion.

Turkey has worked to create its first reconnaissance UAV since 2004. About 180 engineers have been involved in the project, which relates to medium class vehicles with a long flight span.

ANKA has several advantages in comparison to the Israeli UAV Heron. The Heron can lift no more than a 185 kilogramme payload to the height of 30,000 feet, while this figure exceeds 200 kilogrammes for the ANKA UAV.
