Violations during protests in Tbilisi draw PACE co-rapporteurs criticism
The co-rapporteurs of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Michael Astrup Jensen of Denmark and Boris Tsilevich of Latvia have condemned the violence during protests outside the National Library in Tbilisi on February 8, according to the Council of Europe's Information Centre in Georgia.
"There is no place for violence in a democratic protest. We urge all parties to remain calm and to refrain from any actions that could escalate into violence. We call on the authorities to fully investigate the onset of violence and punish all those responsible in full compliance with international standards," the co-rapporteurs said.
Several people were injured in clashes between deputies of Georgian parliament minority and supporters of the Georgian Dream coalition. Opposition MP Chiora Takiakishvili was among them.
