U.S. to reduce Armenia aid 19 pct in 2013
The United States will provide $32.5 million in economic assistance to Armenia in 2013, a 19 percent decrease in comparison with 2012, according to the newly announced aid package for the South Caucasus states.
The US government said the biggest volume of assistance among the region’s countries, $70.8 million, will be rendered to Georgia, which is aspiring to become a NATO member and implementing wide-ranging reforms. Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported that this could be interpreted as remuneration to President Mikheil Saakashvili for his reforms.
The assistance to Azerbaijan was designated at $15.5 million next year.
