Caspian states plan university

The Caspian littoral countries - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia - will establish the Caspian Floating University, an Iranian university’s official was quoted by ISNA news agency as saying.

Mansour Afshar Mohammadian, the University of Guilan Dean of Scientific Cooperation and International Relationship, said the Caspian Floating University will give an impetus to the relations between the littoral countries in the field of scientific and student exchange.

"The establishment of the university will be discussed and launched at a meeting of state research institutions and universities of the Caspian states to be held in Baku," Mohammadian said.

He said that the decision was taken at a meeting in Astrakhan, Russia.

"The purpose of establishing it is to create conditions for receiving education in biotechnology, agriculture, mechanics, textiles, gardening, law, mathematics and economics in the littoral countries."

Mohammadian said that if the level of teaching in these and other disciplines is high in any of the five countries, students from the other countries will be eligible to study there.

Mohammadian expressed hope that the university will begin work next year.
