Armenian leader levels territorial claims to Turkey
ANKARA – President Serzh Sargsyan has leveled territorial claims to Turkey, saying appropriation of the Agri mountainous area in Turkey is a task facing future generations of Armenians, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported.
Addressing school students at a contest of Armenian language on Monday, Sargsyan was asked whether or not Armenia would be able to "reclaim its western territories, including the Agri mountain". He replied that it was "a task of the new generation".
"For example, my generation successfully fulfilled its duty. In the 1990s, we freed Artsakh [Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Karabakh region] back from the enemy. Every generation has its own task. And whether or not you will be able to fulfill your duty as we did depends on how united you are.
"But I have to point something out. The clout of countries is not measured by square meters in the world today. The more modern, safe and economically advanced Armenia is, the higher will be its clout."
