Iran unveils new submarines
TEHRAN - Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi
says Iran is going to unveil its new domestic submarines next
month, Iranian Press TV reported.
Vahidi said the submarines, which are made locally, would be
delivered to Iran's Navy by mid-August.
Asked about the Russian S-300 defense system deal, Vahidi said the
agreement is not cancelled and Tehran is "seriously following up on
the issue".
Under a contract signed in 2005, Russia was obliged to provide Iran
with at least five S-300 air-defense systems. However, Moscow has
continually delayed the shipment of the sophisticated defense
system prompting Tehran to express disagreement with the Russian
move.
