Chechen-Azeri rift boils into deadly clash
A man was killed in a fight between ethnic Chechens and
Azerbaijanis in Russia’s Volgograd region.
Cold weapons and traumatic pistols were used during the clash, Russian Life News website said. A Chechen died after being fatally stabled in the thorax, while another was wounded from a traumatic pistol.
Three Azerbaijanis were injured in the skirmish. All of them have been hospitalized.
The clash had been reportedly caused by long-standing hostility between the Chechen Dashayevs family and Azerbaijani Talibovs family. The rift emerged six months ago, when Israel Dashayev and Eldar Talibov were prosecuted on charges of robbery. The Azerbaijanis say Dashayev had drawn their relative to committing the crime, while the Chechens reject the accusations.
Volgograd investigators said members of the two families had met to ascertain who is right, and disagreement among some ten people resulted in intense fighting.
