Iraq pays first part of its debt to Iran

Iraq has paid a part of its debt to Iran to the bank account of the Central Bank of Iran, according to the website of the Central Bank of Iran, Trend reports.
On March 11, 2019, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Abdolnaser Hemmati had a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ali Mohsen Ismail al-Alaq in Baghdad.
During the meeting, the parties held discussions on the implementation of the agreements made last month between the central banks of the two countries.
The sides also touched upon issues related to the simplification of banking activity of Iranian exporters, activities of Iranian banks in Iraq, establishment of relations between Iranian and Iraqi banks, and establishing Iraqi dinar warranties instead of US dollar warranties regarding the activities of Iranian contractors.
About $4 billion of the $12 billion of Iranian exports to Iraq are connected with electricity and gas.
