Two Memorandums of Understanding on the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway between Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) and Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, as well as a memorandum on the construction of the Rasht-Anzali railway line between the CDTIC and Anzali Free Zone, have been signed.

On the sidelines of the official opening ceremony of the Qazvin-Rasht railway, which was held on Wednesday evening in the presence of the Iran's president, two MoUs were signed, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The Qazvin-Rasht railway was launched on Wednesday evening with the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani.

Qazvin-Rasht railway starts from the Black Cheshmeh station of Qazvin province. The rail link from the Rasht station is connected to Bandar-e Anzali and Astara.

The speed limit for passenger trains is 160 km/h, while for freight trains - 120 km/h.

The launch of the railway is an important factor as far as transportation of cargo and passengers from Qazvin and Gilan provinces goes. The railway will also serve as a new rail corridor for export and import as well as transit of goods from northern parts of the country to the Persian Gulf and international waters.
