The World Bank plans to implement a project on integrated development of medium-sized cities of Uzbekistan, Podrobno.uz reported.

This initiative aims to increase investment and tourism potential of Uzbekistan, as well as to improve the quality of life of the population. The WB intends to launch this project in the near future, and Kagan, Chartak and Yangiyul will become the three pilot cities.

In order to carry out preparatory activities for this project, the representatives of the World Bank need cartographic materials of these cities. Therefore, the other day they had a meeting with representatives of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre.

"The provision of such data is connected with certain approval procedures, which are carried out in accordance with legislation and legal and regulatory documents based on the legislation of the former Soviet Union, which was one of the most closed states in such matters," said Sherzod Habibullayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre.

A possible solution to this issue is giving special status to the cities of Kagan, Chartak and Yangiyul in order to avoid unnecessary bureaucratic procedures and to start work on the pilot project as soon as possible.

During the meeting, the representatives of the World Bank also proposed to invite foreign consultants to assist in resolving the problems in legislation.
