It's official: Rouhani gets 58%, re-elected as Iran's president

Moderate presidential candidate Hassan Rouhani has assumed office for a second term in Iran, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli has officially announced.
Some 57 percent of Iranian voters have backed the incumbent president with over 23 million votes, Trend correspondent reported from the premises of Elections Headquarters at the Interior Ministry May 20.
According to the official announcement, 41 million votes had been cast and Rouhani’s conservative rival, Ebrahim Raeisi, has secured about 38.5 percent of the total votes.
The 68 year-old president has promised to improve the country’s economic situation through opening Iran to the world. He has also pledged to give Iranians more freedom.
