BAKU – Azerbaijan is planning to export about 7.4bn cubic meters of gas to Russia, Georgia and Turkey this year, a senior official at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) was quoted by Trend as saying.

SOCAR will export 1bn c. m. to Russia, 1.4bn c. m. to Georgia and about 5bn c. m. of gas to Turkey, the source said.

Azerbaijan launched gas supplies to Russia on January 1 this year. The medium-term contract on the purchase and sale of Azeri gas to Russia for the period of 2010-2014 was signed between SOCAR and Gazprom in Baku on October 14, 2009.

Based on the new agreement, signed in Baku during the Russian President Medvedev’s visit in early September, Azerbaijan is to up gas exports to Russia to 2b c.m. per year in 2011 and to over 2bn c.m. per year starting from 2012.

Azerbaijan is supplying gas to Georgia and Turkey as well. Georgia receives large volumes of gas from the Shah Deniz field, developed by SOCAR and its foreign partners.

Azeri gas exports to Turkey are stipulated by a contract to develop the first stage of the Shah Deniz gas condensate field. Turkey is expected to receive 6.6bn c.m. of gas per year during the peak production.
