SOCAR in talks on gas exports to Iran
Azerbaijan`s state energy firm, SOCAR, is in talks on launching gas exports to neighboring Iran in the winter, its president, Rovnag Abdullayev, said Monday.
``We exported a certain volume of gas to Iran last year. Probably, we will be carrying out exports in a certain amount this winter season, as well,`` he said.
According to Abdullayev, it is too early to specify the bulk of the deliveries as negotiations on the issue are still underway.
The SOCAR president said the pipeline linking Azerbaijan with Iran is currently under repair and the capacity of the existing compressor stations is being increased to ensure gas exports in the volume sought by Azerbaijan.
The two countries are linked by the 1,474 kilometer Gazi-Muhammad-Astara (Azerbaijan)-Bind-Biand (Iran) pipeline that has an annual capacity of 10 billion cubic meters. The Azerbaijan section of the conduit is 296 km long.
