NREP exports to rise
SOCAR, Azerbaijan`s state oil company, intends to
increase oil exports through the Northern Route Export Pipeline
(NREP) for the first time this year. In 2008, 1.3 million tons were
transported through the pipeline, while this year exports are
expected to reach 2.5 million tons.
A total of 443,000 tons of oil were exported through NREP in the first quarter of 2009, of which 224,000 tons were exported in March.
An alternative export route, NREP, which stretches from Baku to the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, has been exporting Azerbaijani oil to world markets since November 1997.
