Azerbaijani -Iraqi ties mulled
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has received outgoing ambassador of Iraq Heydar Shiya Gubeysi al-Barrak.
The sides highlighted the historical and traditional friendly relations between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Iraq.
The Minister recalled his fruitful meeting with Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Foreign Minister of Iraq on the development of relations between the two countries on September 29, 2015, on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Gubeysi al-Barrak expressed his gratitude for the support during his diplomatic mission.
He noted that the direct flights between Baku and Baghdad will contribute to the development of economic, trade, tourism relations and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Mammadyarov wished the ambassador every success in his diplomatic activities.
Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iraq started more than 40 years ago, and Iraq was one of the first countries that opened an embassy in Azerbaijan.
