President Aliyev opens facilities in Kurdamir, Agsu

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived on a visit to the Kurdamir region on September 17.

The head of state began his visit by laying flowers at a statue of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the city center.

The head of Kurdamir Region Executive Authority, Jeyhun Safarov, informed the head of state about the conditions created in Heydar Aliyev Park and work carried out here over the last years.

President Aliyev has attended the opening ceremony of the unveiling of Flag Square in Kurdamir.

At 62 meters, descriptions of the state anthem, state emblem, and map of Azerbaijan were placed on the top of the pole.

The construction of the Square that covers a total area of five hectares and includes a Flag Museum started in 2014.

Following the flag ceremony, President Aliyev attended the opening of a 100-person orphanage-kindergarten in Kurdamir, which was constructed on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The construction of the orphanage, which occupies a total area of 1,200 square meters, started in May 2014. Special attention was given to ensuring the intellectual, physical, and mental development of children, discovering their talents and abilities. Modern attractions were installed, playgrounds were built.

Later, the president attended the inauguration of the Mollakand-Akhtachi-Oylagulu highway in Kurdamir.

Jeyhun Safarov informed the head of state that the road links 13 residential areas with a total population of 12,000 people. The construction of the highway began under an executive order from the head of state dated March 7, 2012.

A total of seven million manats were allocated from the President’s Contingency Fund for the road construction. The highway, which is 28km in length and 8-10m in width, was provided with all necessary infrastructures.

As part of his visit, the head of state attended the opening of the office building of Kurdamir region branch of the New Azerbaijan Party.

The construction of the building was started in November 2014. The two-storey building occupies a total area of 630 square meters.

A bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev was installed in the building. There are photo stands on the second floor featuring the activities of national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev with the New Azerbaijan Party.

The head of state also reviewed the Kurdamir Museum of History and Local Lore after a major overhaul.

The President arrived in Galaba Park where the museum is located. The head of state was told that a monument commemorating Kurdamir residents who died in the World War II has recently been completely repaired. The park was also redeveloped. New fountains were installed and green areas created.

The head of state reviewed the Museum of History and Local Lore. The renovation of the museum started in 2014. Its collection now includes 4,070 exhibits, which are on display in seven sections in four halls.

The museum highlights culture and history of the Paleolithic Era. It also features important archaeological finds discovered in Kurdamir. There are also many photos and documents reflecting atrocities committed by the Armenians in Kurdamir in 1918.

As part of the visit, the president opened a secondary school named after Mohubbat Azimov in Atakishili village in Kurdamir.

Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said that the 624-seat school was constructed under the order of the ministry. The construction work started in October 2014.

The building occupies a total area of 2,000 square meters. The three-storey school has 53 rooms, including 26 classrooms that include military, linguistic, and computer rooms, and departments of chemistry, physics, and biology.

Following, the head of state attended the opening of Aghsu-Kurdamir part of Aghsu-Kurdamir-Imishli highway.

Acting chairman of Azeryolservis, Saleh Mammadov, informed the head of state about the process of renovating the Agsu-Kurdamir-Imishli highway.

The implementation of the project, which costs a total of 102 million manats, started in July, 2014.

Aghsu-Kurdamir section is 37 km in length. Passing through 14 villages, this stretch of the highway will contribute to the improvement of socio-economic conditions of 25,000 people.

President Ilham Aliyev met with developers and gave them relevant instructions and recommendations.

Following the Kurdamir visit, President Aliyev arrived in Aghsu region.

The head of state also attended the opening of the Sports Complex in Aghsu region.

Initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the construction of the complex started in May, 2013.

Wide construction and landscaping work has been carried out in the yard of the complex.

The head of state viewed the swimming pool. It measures 18.5 meters in length and 11 meters in width. There are also a sauna, massage room and Turkish bath here.

President Aliyev also viewed taekwondo and boxing gyms.

The complex features state-of-the-art equipment, and has tennis and snooker halls. There are conference and administrative rooms here.
