Defense Minister mulls Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with OSCE representative

Azerbaijan’s high-ranking official and OSCE representative have discussed the settlement process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, Azerbaijan’s defense minister met with Andrzej Kasprzyk, personal representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the ministry reported.

During the meeting, they exchanged views over current situation on troops' line of contact, monitoring results and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Armenian aggravated the situation on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops in recent times with frequent ceasefire breaches.

The Armenian forces violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line 105 times over the past 24 hours using mortars and large-caliber machine guns, Azerbaijan’s defense ministry said.

Since the beginning of August, Armenian troops broke the ceasefire an average of 100 times a day.

The occupant forces also frequently attempt sabotage along the line of contact and border areas.

The Armenian armed forces attempted the incursion during the day and into the night on July 24 by firing shells at Azerbaijani positions in the direction of the Goranboy, Aghdam, Terter, and Fuzuli regions, as well as across the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border into the Gadabay region, the statement said.

The calls by international community to abide by the ceasefire regime have been repeatedly ignored by the Armenian leadership, who follows the policy of aggression and occupation against Azerbaijan over 20 years.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since 1994, but long-standing efforts by U.S., Russian, and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.

As a result of Armenia going unpunished for its crimes, it still continues the occupation in defiance of U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
